Empowering Learners Through Work Incubation Placements: The ASIME Women and Vuka Uyibambe Bakery Partnership

At ASIME, we are passionate about empowering women, promoting youth development, and championing gender equality through meaningful opportunities in the workforce. As part of our mission, we focus on equipping emerging entrepreneurs, small-scale farmers, and SMEs with the skills they need to thrive in the mainstream economy. One of the key ways we do this is through our work incubation and placement programs, where learners get hands-on experience in various industries, including agriculture, manufacturing, retail, events, livestock and more.

Today, we’d like to spotlight one of our inspiring partnerships—Vuka Uyibambe Bakery in the township community of KwaMashu, a small business that is making a big impact on local youth while giving them an opportunity to develop essential skills in baking and business operations. What truly sets this grouping apart is that the founder of this bakery business is non other than Zanele Sibiya, a former learner in our NVC programme. Under the guidance of ASIME Women, to acquire funding to expand her bakery business, she has gone on to establish a thriving state of the arts baking establishment and host 9 of our current cohort. This speaks to the phenomenal ripple effect of our impactful programmes in tangibly uplifting and empowering youth in business, so that they can empower others.
