Earlier this year, when the SEDFA Asset Assist call was announced, ASIME Women saw not just an opportunity but a critical mission: to ensure that the young entrepreneurs and small-scale businesses we work with had every chance to access these game-changing resources. Our Entrepreneurs Aftercare Programme (EAP) swung into action, embodying what ASIME stands for, walking the journey with our entrepreneurs, bridging the gap between their dreams and the resources they need to bring them to life.

For three intensive days, we took over the Keyline Digital School in Florida Road, Durban. This cutting-edge facility, complete with modern Mac desktops and a team of dedicated facilitators, became the hub where our learners could tackle the complex SEDFA application process head-on. Many of our learners were unfamiliar with the online system-something as simple as uploading a PDF became a daunting task. But we believe that barriers like this should never stand in the way of entrepreneurial ambition.

That’s why we didn’t just provide the space, we brought in the expertise. Weeks before submission, a chartered accountant from Nomakha Yolelo Inc. walked them through their financial statements and cash flow projections, demystifying how to present their businesses in the most professional light. SOBS Trading, our SARS consultant, handled intensive compliance documentation, ensuring that every box was checked and every detail was accurate. Jamwukz Enterprise handled the critical updates to CIPC and CSD profiles, making sure our learners’ businesses were fully compliant and ready to scale.

This wasn’t just about filling out forms. It was about empowering our youth-owned and women-owned businesses with the skills and confidence to navigate complex funding environments. By the end of those tireless weeks, 67 SEDFA applications had been submitted, a testament to the power of practical, hands-on support and the unwavering determination of our entrepreneurs.

The results speak volumes: 51 of those applications were approved, unlocking a total funding value of R12.75 million. Each successful applicant will receive assets worth up to R250,000, vital equipment and resources that will transform their small businesses into growing, sustainable enterprises.

As we enter Youth Month, it’s more important than ever to celebrate these wins, not just as numbers, but as stories of resilience, determination and partnership. At ASIME Women, we believe that our role as a bridge between small businesses and the opportunities they need is not just important, it’s essential. This SEDFA success is one of our proudest highlights of the year, showcasing how real, tailored support can turn a grant opportunity into a catalyst for real, lasting change.

To our 51 SEDFA success stories: this is just the beginning. And to every young and aspiring entrepreneur who dreams of taking their business to the next level, know this, ASIME Women is here to walk that journey with you.
